BUFFALO, NY - Fidelis Care, the New York State Catholic Health Plan, is now offering member eligibility information through for Western New York providers. WNYHealtheNet is a nationally recognized Internet-based data sharing tool used by all the major healthcare providers and health insurance plans in Western New York.

As an online community health network, WNYHealtheNet was established over four years ago by a consortium of regional healthcare providers and health plans including The Catholic Health System, Erie County Medical Center Corporation, Kaleida Health, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and plans such as Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Western New York, Independent Health, and Univera Healthcare.

Since its inception in June 2002, WNY HealtheNet has provided an Internet model for data sharing among over 21,000 providers and office staff who have processed more than 60 million transactions. The system gives providers the ability to confirm member eligibility and benefit information for all participating health plans, as well as to check claim status, referrals and authorizations, and other information.

WNYHealtheNet standardized data sharing also helps the local medical community comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

WNYHealtheNet benefits include lower operating costs by the avoidance of vendor "click fees" (cost per transaction); the development of common community-wide standards and fiber data connections and the creation of a community culture which values cooperation. WNYHealtheNet members are able to send on-line real-time electronic transactions to each other, and in the future, to NYS Medicaid and Medicare, through a shared electronic network that is already in place. Community physicians currently participate at no charge through a secure website at

WNYHealtheNet has standardized data sharing among member institutions and community physicians to optimize processing of patient transactions and to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a set of federal regulations for all physician offices which became effective April 2004.
WNYHealtheNet is supported by internal employees of each member organization as well as a series of contractors.  APP Design Corporation, the developer of the WNYHealtheNet web application, builds enterprise-class systems delivering information from disparate sources using Internet technologies.  Personal Computers Inc. (PCI) is the managed service provider which hosts and supports the WNYHealtheNet web application.  GrapeVine Consulting provides developmental and operational management services to WNYHealtheNet.  Harris Beach is the legal firm that has been contracted to provide counsel to WNYHealtheNet and Pat Prior provides bookkeeping and accounting services to the LLC.
